Comapo tour guides in Punto Arenas and Puerto Natales( other
than the one with the fixation on mating penguins). Especially Miriam Alvarez,
who tolerated my bad Spanish, allowed me to try and communicate badly what I
wanted to do in Spanish, even though seh could speak perfect English. That
takes patience
To John and “ was it reni?” the bus driver who took us
around Torres del Paine. Bus driver was the best driver I have seen.
Chris at Edinburgh Cycle Co-op, who with Silvano’s help got

To the groundsmen at the Punta Arenas cemetery, for doing a
spectacular job in maintaining a fabulous cemetery ( and to the people that
tend to the graves/ mausoleums).A special respect to the people who maintain
that air of respectability by ensuring that there is no graffiti in or around
the cemetery, even if it does seem to cover every other building of quality in
Punta Arenas!
To the fabulous guys and girls at the Hostal Calafate,
without whom, I’d still be negotiating how to get bike parts from
Santiago to Punto Arenas!
They provided me with good comfortable beds, warmshowers, wi-fi (once I worked
out it was controlled by the light switch) and, by south American standards, a
good breakfast every day.
Sarah Braun and Jose Menendez, for providing decadence
beyond belief in their home, hotel and in most of the colonial architecture
that adorns the plaza.
And.

A really big thank you to all who have sponsored me so far.
It’s appreciated, it really is.
And the biggest thanks ever goes to Manuel, who rescued me
from the worst winds I have ever seen, helped me to get to my next destination,
gave me hope, when I thought after 570km, I wasn’t going any further and for
being one of life’s great people.
Ok, and ultimately to you all for the comments, the support
and the help. Had Silvano not sorted out the parts, I’d be poisoning myself to
death on tasty seafood in
Punta Arenas,
Chris J; Thanks for raising the profile. Sadly the hits on the website don’t
match the hits on the just-giving pages. Who knows- maybe there will be a last
minute dash to splash the cash.
Hope all is well back in Morpeth. You’ll soon be leaving
Longhirst, I know. What real a shame. Imagine having to leave red squirrels to
go and join dinosaurs!!!!! But read my story of the Mylodon. And after that;
Rosabeth Moss Kanter “ When giants learn to dance”.And afterwards, go teach those dinos how to
tango and salsa!
